X-Man is a pornographic video game made for the Atari 2600 by Universal Gamex, programmed by Alan Roberts and H. K. Poon. This game was released in 1983 and has nothing to do with the similarly named Marvel's comic book series entitled X-Men.
X-Man (Atari 2600)
Rather, it was a pornographic video game, the only title made by this company by Universal Games. It had faced protest from women’s groups when it was first released, and most retailers declined to carry it - or if they did - you had to be 18 years old to purchase the game, or you had to ask for it under-the-counter. It is consequently very hard to find today, as of 2014. However, it is easier to find this game in PAL format and rarer in NTSC. There have been reports that there are between twenty to forty-five cartridges in existence.
In the game, the player controls the titular X-Man, whose mind is focused on sex to the point of ignoring all danger. His objective is to make his way through a random maze, avoiding either crabs, scissors, or teeth, to get to the woman behind the door in the middle of the maze. The player has 90 seconds to get there. Once the intrepid hero reaches his 'goal', the player enters a so-called 'Sexy Surprise' mode, which is a simple sex simulation mini-game that lasts until the woman reaches orgasm. Clearly contradictory to most comparable real-life situations, the player has only 30 seconds to satisfy her; then it is off to the next maze.
The player receives points equivalent to the amount of time remaining after X-man reaches the maze center. Points are also awarded for each increment of the sexual excitement meter.
