From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Battle Out Run was a 1989 videogame released by Sega on the Master System. Despite being part of the Out Run series, this game plays little like its namesake and more like Chase H.Q., where the objective is to ram the cars of specified criminals. A notable feature is to enhance the car's attributes by buying upgrades that are inside of a truck that passes at certain moments and must be entered from the rear.

And they're flanked by ferociously loyal thug drivers who'll try anything to slow you down. Once you spot a boss, the only way to stop him is to bash the life out of his car before time tuns out. Otherwise, you'll have to start over, and lose all the great parts you buy alnog the way. So belt in and battle your way across the country to meet and beat Casadrando - the biggest boss of them all. If you've got the brains, the guts, and the time, the big guy's yours.
Battle Out Run was Sega's answer to Taito's Chase H.Q. The player drives a red sports car and must apprehend eight target vehicles in selected cities across the USA, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and New York. He has to do this while avoiding yellow cars and other obstacles. Halfway through the eight stages, he enters a shop that allows him to upgrade his car and get some nitros, as long as he has money, and he will be rewarded if he apprehend the vehicles. This can be done by bumping into them to disable them.
